It’s not always just about large scale blockchain conference. Small format event plays an important role in the blockchain industry as well. But how?

With over 100 speakers and 1000 attendees, Block Live Asia is a large scale conference that aims to educate the general public about blockchain, engage with the crypto communities, and showcase great companies and speakers.

On the other hand, smaller scale and more personalized networking event will be the perfect platform for individuals to network with business leaders, creating an ideal opportunity for partnerships to form.

As blockchain technology is still in its infancy stage, everyone is learning and maturing together. Small scale networking events facilitate a vital exchange of ideas between blockchain pioneers that can lead to something massive.

Recently, Grounded hosted a small format networking session, Crypto Coffee Chapter 1 The IEO Hype”.

Representatives from reputable cryptocurrency exchanges were invited down to network at The Providore.

We took the opportunity to find out more about this event during an interview with the organiser of “Crypto Coffee”, Pamela Phua:

Q: Where did the idea of Crypto Coffee come from? What is the purpose of this event?

A: Crypto Coffee is initiated to increase our outreach, create collaboration opportunities and build camaraderie with people from the industry. We decided to go with a coffee session because we wanted to make it a casual round table session just like friends catching up with each other on industry updates.

Q: Why are small networking events important in the blockchain industry?

A: It can help everyone stay updated with the latest blockchain trends and look out for potential partners. Face to face interactions are always better to help inject some personality into interactions as compared to just connecting online.

Q: In your opinion, what is the difference between a small format event, Crypto Coffee and a large scale conference, Block Live Asia?

A: Small format event creates a cosier setting and increased visibility where participants get their voices heard by everyone, especially in a round table format. It can be difficult to network among the crowd at a large scale conference.

Q: Who came down for the inaugural Crypto Coffee Chapter 1? What is this session about?

A: We invited representatives from exchanges such as Biki, Digifinex, Liquid, Exonium, Latoken, ZB, ABCC and Sparrow. During this session, we had a discussion on the IEO wave and how crypto exchanges can better help projects take their fundraising to the next level.

Q: What are some takeaways or observations during this networking session?

A: During the round table conversation with different exchanges, one of the biggest takeaways was that we are all in the same, vibrant and growing crypto-community, and the issues exchanges faced were similar. The landscape is ever-changing, and security always emerges as one of the biggest problems exchanges face. It was eye-opening to hear different exchanges sharing about the difficulties and issues they faced, and how it was a collaborative effort to constantly learn, grow and adapt.

Q: What can we look forward to for the next Crypto Coffee?

A: For the first Crypto Coffee we targeted cryptocurrency exchanges as the main audience. Regarding the Crypto Coffee Chapter 2, we are planning on catering to either investors or blockchain projects. Large scale blockchain conferences connect individuals to a wider audience and offer an opportunity for companies to seek new partnerships or pitch to investors.

However, this usually comes at a high cost and it can be challenging to network in a crowd.

Grounded’s Crypto Coffee explores the potential of small format networking sessions, allowing industry leaders to plug into their ecosystem and kick start conversations.
