And here’s the recap for our last edition of “The DeFi Uprising” September Edition! BLA2020 focuses on the recent trend in blockchain, DeFi. Decentralized finance is one of the sectors that has been trying to shake the traditional financial ecosystem, providing solutions such as lending, staking, exchange of derivatives and many more! However, the barrier of adopting DeFi as a platform remains, as the general public does not understand the concept of DeFi well. Therefore, BLA aims to educate the masses about the potential of DeFi and inspire mass adoption of this technology.

A huge thank you to our speakers, sponsors and attendees for participating in Event 3!

If you have missed Event 3, fret not! We will be sharing the event highlights right below!

What is AMM, Bonding Curves, Impermanent Loss and Slippages

With the exponential growth of DeFi, 2020 is quickly shaping up to be the year for DEXs to take the mainstage. With optimised usability, deeper liquidity, and emerging composability, the DEX ecosystem is as strong as ever. In an open discussion joined by Fernando Martinelli from Balancer, Nate Hindman from Bancor, and Michael Egorov from Curve, they shared their valuable thoughts and insights on topics such as reducing risk and sustainability for liquidity providers in AMMs, impermanent loss, price slippage, and Yearn’s stable credit and one-sided exposure in AMM risks.

How DeFi is disrupting Traditional Finance

Even though DeFi is currently still a small proportion in traditional finance, many relevant parties are still talking about DeFi, from governments to regulations and banks. This is due to the fact that DeFi evangelists believe that finance should not be controlled by centralised sources and intermediaries.

Robert Sharratt, Founder at CrescoFin SA, gave an in-depth analysis and explanation on the ways in which traditional finance can be disrupted by DeFi in the near future, and shared his prediction on how DeFi will gain its footing in the global finance market.

DeFi in Cardano — The UTXO Way

Being accustomed to traditional banking systems, we are all aware that our personal bank accounts are kept up-to-date through a centralised system of accounts. However, a different type of system — the Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) model, can also be used for keeping track of people’s funds and transactions. Cardano is one such example that uses the UTXO model.

As such, Nicolás Arqueros from Emurgo and Cardano shares about DeFi in Cardano through their model and plans, alongside the developer’s smart contract language to help developers build on Cardano as a Layer 1 solution.

Last but not least, we would once again like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to all our speakers, sponsors and attendees for the BLA Event. Register with your email on our website for the latest update.

What is next for BLA2020?

For our first edition of “The DeFi Uprising”, we are grateful to have some of the biggest names in DeFi to come on-board as partners and speakers. For our next edition, we will be focusing on the hottest trend — AMMs.

With so many anonymous projects in the DeFi market right now, credibility and trust between projects and the community are extremely important. Calling out to all AMMs, Swaps or Farms to participate in our next edition. Engage with your community and share your project’s vision! Are you willing to stand on the same stage with other AMMs and share what makes you different? Most importantly, where do you see yourself 2–5 years down the road? After all, DeFi is not all about Yield Farming and sustainability is crucial.
